DOST Scholarship and Priority Courses

Every year, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) offers scholarships to graduating high school students through its Science Education Institute (SEI). The application period usually begins in the month of October and ends in November of each year.

What is the DOST Scholarship Program?

Basically, the DOST Scholarship Program is an initiative that seeks to entice young, talented, and skilled Filipinos to pursue careers in science and technology. By doing so, we can be assured of having many science and technology experts who can definitely contribute towards the country’s progress and development.

What are Scholarship Privileges Included?

Students who qualify for the DOST Scholarship can look forward to receiving the scholarship privileges and allowances listed below.

For a Regular Academic Year:

  • Tuition and other school fees (for those enrolled in private Higher Education Institutions) – PHP 40,000 / year
  • Book Allowance – PHP 10,000 / year
  • Monthly Living Allowance – PHP 7,000 / month
  • Clothing Allowance – PHP 1,000 (for the first semester of the first year only)
  • Transportation Allowance – 1 economy-class round trip fare (for those staying outside of their home province)
  • Thesis Allowance – PHP 10,000
  • Graduation Allowance – PHP 1,000
  • Group Health and Accident Insurance – Premium

For Summer Allowance (if required by the curriculum):

  • Tuition and other school fees – PHP 1,500
  • Book Allowance – PHP 500
  • Monthly Living Allowance – PHP 7,000 / month (for two months)

Who can Apply for DOST Scholarship?

You are qualified to apply for DOST scholarship if you:

  • Are a natural-born Filipino citizen;
  • Are a graduating Grade 12 student;
  • Belong to a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) class;
  • Are a non-STEM student who belongs to the top 5 percent of the graduating class;
  • Have academic ratings in Grades 9, 10, and 11;
  • Have not earned any post-secondary units;
  • Are of good moral character and in good health;
  • Have taken the DOST Scholarship Exam before, but did not qualify for the program; and
  • Have taken the DOST Scholarship Exam before and qualified for the program, but did not avail of the scholarship.

What are the Requirements?

Before submitting an application for the DOST Scholarship Program, be sure to prepare the following documents:

  • Birth Certificate;
  • Recent passport-sized picture (1.8 x 1.4 inches / 4.5 x 3.5 cm);
  • Certified Copy of Permanent Student Record (Form 137) for Grades 9, 10, and 11;
  • Principal’s Certification;
  • Certificate of Good Moral Character;
  • Certificate of Good Health;
  • Certificate of Residency;
  • Parent’s Certification, which indicates that the applicant has no pending immigration application to another country;
  • Applicant’s Certification, which states that you were not a DOST Scholar prior to this application;
  • Signed Declaration of Applicant and Parent/Legal Guardian; and
  • Parent’s / Legal Guardian’s Income Tax Return / BIR Form 1701 / BIR Certificate of Exemption from Filing of ITR / Certificate of Employment with Compensation / Certificate of Indigency / Proof of Pension.

How to Apply for DOST Scholarship?

Interested applicants are invited to apply through this link: https://usas.science-scholarships.ph/#/register. Make sure that you have a valid email account, mobile number, and stable Internet connection before signing up.

During the registration, you will be given an Application ID. This will serve as part of your access credentials to the DOST-SEI’s Undergraduate Scholarship E-Application System. So make sure that you keep your access credentials safe and secure!

Moreover, do not create multiple accounts, as this would only cause problems and delays in accessing your application.

After taking the exam, you can check the DOST-SEI website at https://sei.dost.gov.ph for the list of qualifiers and other important announcements. A Notice of Award will be sent to the qualifier’s registered email address, so watch out for any email messages, as well.
